Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Term 4!

Wow, what a quick and busy first week back. It has been lovely to see all the children return after the Easter break showing great enthusiasm and eagerness to get stuck into their learning. I think the fact that the sun has been shining brightly all week has played a big role in this. It really does put a smile on everyone’s faces, long may it continue!

On Monday, we were all super keen to share with our peers what we did during our Easter holidays. This provided us with a relevant context to focus on sentence structure in our writing  Most of us are now starting sentences with capital letters, ending them with full stops, leaving finger spaces between words, spelling common words correctly and having a good guess at those words we do not yet know how to spell. Primary 2’s are also becoming more confident in using adjectives to add description and connectives to join what would be two separate sentences together to make one complete sentence.

We have also been continuing our work on addition within Numeracy this week. For Mental Maths, we have been developing our mental addition within 10 and 20 using the ‘counting on’ strategy. We will continue to practise this strategy daily to help increase our speed. Primary ones have focused on developing their understanding of addition facts by learning the 2 numbers which add together to make the numbers 3, 4 and 5. The children are practising sums such as 4 + ? = 5. Primary 2’s have been developing their understanding of addition within 20 by adding a single digit to a teens number, using tens and ones.

In Health and Wellbeing, we learned how to keep ourselves safe around strangers. We learned that the most important rule is ‘Yell, Run and Tell’ (yell NO!, run home or to the nearest safer building and tell a safer adult).

A highlight this week was being able to develop our gymnastic skills outside in the fresh air on and around our trim trail in the playing fields.

We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Yorkston And P1/2
