Good afternoon
What a busy week it has been!
For Literacy this week we have been enjoying learning to read and spell lots of words using our new phonic sounds, including for P1 ‘sh and wh’ and for P2 ‘ee and ea’. We have been using our magnetic letters to practise making the sounds and words. We have also been learning to use the spelling strategy, ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check’ to practise spelling our common words this week, and look forward to practising this at home.

In Numeracy, P1’s have been developing our adding skills, using numicon to support adding two numbers together and finding how many that makes altogether. P2’s have been consolidating our adding skills to 10 and using the strategies to help develop their skills in adding mentally. We have also been learning how to add 10 more onto a single digit and learning to find all the add facts for the numbers 11 and 12. We will continue to develop all of our skills next week.

For our Project this week, after listening to the story “Maggie’s Magical Islands’ read by author Coo Clayton; in which Maggie and her mum travel around Scotland, visiting some of the Scottish Islands, we were very much interested to find out more about the Scottish Islands. We were surprised to learn that Scotland has over 790 Scottish Islands. We then used a map of Scotland to locate the Scottish Islands that Maggie and her mum visited including Lewis and Harris, Skye, Mull, Arran, The Shetlands and The Orkney islands.

The Highlight of the week though was participating in some team games, as part of our outdoor P.E. Our favourite game was called ‘Pirate Treasure’ and we are looking forward to playing this and other team games next week. Please note that, with the return of our P4-7 pupils on Monday, we will be returning to our original P.E. days of Thursday and Friday as of next week. The children should continue to wear their full P.E kits to school on these days.

Have a lovely weekend
