Good afternoon everyone,

For phonics this week, the primary one children were learning that the 'a' in some words is pronounced 'o'. This helped us to read the new common words was, want, all and what.

Primary two children were introduced to the end y sound which can make the long i sound. This sound can be found in words such as my, cry, shy, and fly.

For maths this week, the primary one children were introduced to subtraction. They learned that there are a number of words that mean subtract, including less than, take away and minus. The children learned the crossing out strategy for subtraction. This let them visually see what subtracting something really means.

The primary two children continued with work on place value. They completed further practise of learning the value of the tens and ones in a two digit number. They also learned how to add ten to a two digit number. They learned that they add one more ten to the tens but the ones digit will stay the same.

All the children practised right, left, forwards, backwards, quarter turn and half turn as part of their work on position and movement.

For writing this week, the children wrote another character description. They created and drew their own Wild Thing and then wrote a description of it. The children were encouraged to use adjectives to describe what the Wild Thing looked like and verbs to describe what the Wild Thing liked to do.

Mums and Nans look out for a special surprise this Sunday. The children have made something special for you. I hope you like it!

Have a wonderful weekend. Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig
