Good afternoon,

For their workshop for literacy task this week, the children listened to the chapter, 'Dark is Fascinating,' and discussed the main idea of the story. They then had to draw a picture and write about it.

For maths this week, the P2 children completed their work on addition of three numbers. This task was quite challenging and the children greatly benefitted from having the Numicon to support them. We will continue to encourage the use of strategies to solve such problems. For example, adding the doubles first, adding the two numbers that make ten then adding on the third or adjusting the sum so that a sum such as 9 and 6 and 2 would become 10 and 5 and 2.

The P1 children have completed work on numbers to ten. They have explored the numbers 8, 9 and 10 this week. All the children showed a super understanding of what those amounts mean and look like. They took time to explore the formation of the numbers too using templates to draw over and playdough to model them. Finally, the children explored different ways to make each number using their Numicon trains.

In writing on Wednesday, the children completed their block of learning on poster writing. After enjoying their fruit kebabs so much on Friday, the children created their own fruit character and created posters to encourage others to eat more fruit. The children created the success criteria for the lesson using an example poster and then used this to ensure their posters included everthing that was needed. We hope the posters will catch the eye of other children in the school and will make them want to try out a new fruit.

For project this week, the children learned about the function of the skeleton and muscles. They learned we need the skeleton to support us, help us move and to protect our organs. They also learned that muscles are needed to help our body move because the skeleton can't do it on its own.

The project lesson inspired our outdoor learning and the children made their own interpretation of the skeleton using chalk and sticks.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
