Good afternoon,

P2 have almost come to the end of their maths focus on addition. This week, they were working on adding a teens and a single digit number together to make the total of 20. They were shown how to use their knowledge of number bonds to ten to support them. They also revised addition of two single digit numbers with the total being a teens number. Next week the children will be reinforcing their understanding of these concepts and learning strategies to support them to add three digits together.

P1 have continued to build on their number skills. They were focusing on the numbers 6 and 7 this week. The children were given the opportunity to practise number formation and to make Numicon 6 and 7 monsters to demonstrate their understanding of what 6/7 looks like. They also used Numicon trains to support their understanding of the fact that 6 or 7 can be made from adding different values of numbers to make the total.

The children had lots of fun during our writing session on Wednesday. The previous week, we had been learning about germs and how to prevent them. The children started the lesson by making their own germ out of playdough and other craft materials. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and were talking about their understanding of germs while they were making them. Once the germs were made, the children then had to use a picture of their germ in a poster to encourage people to stop germs from spreading. We looked at all the things that made a good poster before the class got started. The results were super and will be displayed in class and around the school.

We have been further developing our knowledge of Spanish this week. The children have been introduced to the Spanish names for some parts of the body. They have played some games to support their understanding.

Finally, the children had a special visitor in class today. Julie from Asda came to visit. She very kindly brought along some different foods to make a healthy snack with. This activity reinforced work we had completed on the Eatwell plate and work on germs because it also gave us the chance to discuss the need for handwashing before food prep.

The primary one children have continued to work hard on their nativity rehearsal. Mrs Davie is delighted with the effort that they are all putting in. Primary one and two children are enjoying learning the songs from the nativity too.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
