Good afternoon everyone,

Mrs Greig has started a new novel with the class this week. The story is called 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark.' After Chapter one was read, the children wrote a character description of Plop, the baby owl from the story. They drew a detailed picture and most children wrote words to describe Plop too.

For Phonics this week, the P2 children were practising using the blends spr, scr and spl. Please look out for the homework task on Seesaw that accompanies this.

P1 were working on the new sounds n, i and p. They also had the opportunity to blend and segment words with these sounds. They can now complete the p homework.

For Drawing Club this week, the children learned all about Bonfire Night safety. They watched a recording of a firefighter advising them of what clothes they should wear to a display and why. The children then listened to a story about safety at a bonfire event. After, we discussed what fire safety rules they had learned from the information and theses were noted on the board. The children then created their own bonfire night safety posters. They had to choose one rule to focus on . Their posters had to be eye-catching and bright. Their picture and message had to give a clear message. All the children made a good effort and their posters definitely got the safety message across.

We made our first visit to the ICT suite today. The children were very patient because it took a while to log everyone onto the computer. Everyone was getting the chance to try out the website, 'Teach Your Monster to Read.' They were very excited about it. Next week, we are going to ask some of the more senior pupils to come and support the task of logging into the computer and to help put in passwords. In the meantime, I will be sending home the 'Teach Your Monster to Read' passwords and the children can practise their sounds and reading skills at home.

For Maths this week, the P1 children were learning about the numbers 4 and 5. This included recognition, formation, counting amounts and finding different ways to make 4 and 5.

The Primary 2 children continued work on addition to 20. This work included adding 1, 2 and 10 to a teens numbers, adding 2 single digits that bridge ten and finding addition of near doubles.

Can I just remind everyone that gym has changed from a Tuesday to a Thursday. Also, outdoor learning is now on a Friday.

Have a lovely weekend. Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
