Good afternoon everyone,

We are finally at the end of the children's first full week in P1/2. It's been a busy and fun packed week.

On Monday, a surprise package arrived in our class. Everyone was delighted to find out it contained a bear called Bella. She has become a brand new member of the class and she is being well looked after by her classmates. Bella will help us with some of our curriculum learning throughout the year.

Mrs Greig also introduced the first run club to the class on Monday. This was very popular with our p 2/3 class and we are sure the 1/2s will enjoy it just as much. It's amazing how quickly the children's stamina and fitness will grow as the weeks progress.

On Tuesday, the boys and girls were introduced to the story of Superworm by Julia Donaldson. They were introduced to some new words such as 'courageous' and 'indestructable' as part of their work on vocabulary. The children then wrote a character description of Superworm. This involved drawing a detailed picture and adding written words where appropriate. It was very interesting to listen to the amount of descriptive vocabulary the children were using as they were creating their work.

Mrs Greig also introduced the children to the game of 'Toilet Tig' during their playground games PE session. Today I taught the children how to play 'What's the Time Mr Wolf. We are hoping the children will begin to play these games during their breaktime sessions. This will encourage all children to socialise and be inclusive.

On Wednesday, the children continued their work on the Superworm book. They had to  think of another superpower or skill that Superworm could possess. There were many fabulous ideas, including that he had wings to make him fly, he was superstrong and that he had the power to turn into a roller coaster!

P1 have been completing work on early reading and numeracy skills this week while P2 started work on numbers to 20. On Thursday and Friday they worked on knowing the names of the numbers to 20, recogninsing the numerals, writing the numerals and sequencing numbers in order.

Outdoor learning proved a big hit on Thursday afternoon and it was wonderful to see so many children being so adventurous. You can see from the included photos that a lot of fun was being had!

Mrs Greig and I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
