Dear adults,

We started our week with our topic work, learning about People Who Help Us In The Community and with Health And Well-being, learning medicine safety, as we found out that Biscuit had to visit the vets and has been given medicine to make him feel better. We are hoping that he gets well soon and comes back to school on Monday.

The sound made by `th` was taught on Monday and we were introduced to the common words; this, with, then, them, that and the. We all had the word `the` in our reading books and many of us recognised it as we were reading.

Another reading strategy introduced this week was `blending`. We learned that when reading cvc words and cvcc words we should blend the first 2 letters together rather than sounding each seperately, e.g when reading the word `mat` the children should say ma rather than m then a. After blending the first 2 together, the final sound(s) are added. Please see Thursdays seesaw film for a demonstration.

In maths we have been focusing on adding strategies. The children have been working on the strategy of looking at the biggest number in the sum first and then adding on the smaller number, e,g 2+7=    , Do 7+2= instead.
We also learned the `tapping` strategy where the second number is tapped on. Again a video demonstration can be seen on Thursdays Seesaw post along with a homework task in the Activities Section.

The highlight of the week was taking part in the RSPB `s Big School`s Birdwatch. The children worked hard to recognise the birds and collect data in the form of tally marks.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie, Biscuit and P1.
