Dear adults,

This week through our topic work of Autumn, we have been deepening our knowledge and understanding about how living things depend on each other for food. In particular we learned about the shortage of food for birds as their food source hibernates or is less available. We used digital technologies to search and find information about what we could do to help the birds which stay in Scotland rather than migrating overseas and were pleased to be making bird feeders for the Canmore Christmas Fayre.
Our bird feeders challenged our fine motor skills and our counting skills but we were proud of our final results. In fact, other classes have asked us to share with them how we made them so Mrs.Davie modelled writing instructions and we gave them to the other classes to follow so they can create their own.

Phonics learned this week were: r, m and d . We also learned to read and write the words; him, me, am, I`m, and, dad and had. Rather than learning new sounds next week, we will consolidate what has been taught over the last 2 weeks. Children who have retained the sounds taught so far will work on spelling words and reading words and those who can not yet remember the taught sounds, will work on doing so. Consolidation activities will be put on Seesaw on Monday so that you can support your child at home.

In Numeracy we were learning all about 6 and 7. This included the Spanish words for the numerals and add sums up to 7. In mental maths we have been working on adding 2 mentally.  We have also been continuing to learn the days of the week and use the words `before, after and between' correctly.

Our highlight of the week was reaching the Daily Mile Destination of Russia and beginning our journey to Italy.

Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs.Davie,P1 and Biscuit
