Good afternoon,
This week we were introduced to our P1 Reading Learning Journey. This is an interactive display which shares the reading skills the children will be attaining this session. We focused on learning the sounds made by the letters: a, t and s and on reading the common words : a, at and as. Other skills focused upon during our session with our reading books were : I can turn the pages and look at the left page before the right, and I can use the pictures to read the story. The children were excited to share their reading books with you at home. Reading books will usually go home on a Thursday to be returned the following Monday.

The children were also introduced to their Maths Learning Journey. We focused upon the numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3. The children were learning to : form the numerals correctly, to recognise their position in a number line using words such as before/after/less/more/in between, to recognise them as Numicon, to recognise them on a 10 frame and as tally marks and fingers and spots on a dice etc. They also learned the add facts for 3, i.e 2+1, 1+2, 3+0, 0+3, 1+1+1.

The highlight of the week was our Outdoor Learning session in the field where the children were learning to work together to create a huge leaf pile before jumping in it and playing with the leaves. I hope you enjoyed seeing snapshots of the afternoon on our Seesaw platform.

Timetable change - As from next week and for the remainder of the term, P1 will have Outdoor Learning on a Friday afternoon, rather than a Thursday and P.E will change from the Fridays to the Thursdays ( Tuesdays P.E slot will remain the same). Much of our P.E will now take place indoors as we undergo a block of Dance so your child will need to bring a pair of black plimsoles to use in the gym hall. They will remain in your childs tray until the end of the school session. Plimsoles will also be part of everyones Nativity costumes.

Have a lovely Halloween weekend,
Best wishes,
Mrs.Davie, P1 and Biscuit
