Good afternoon,

Our highlights this week were meeting our giant jungle animals. They are suspended  in our class area to remind us all of what makes a good learner.

First we met ` Priscilla the Proud Peacock`. She reminds us that to be a good learner you should always try to do your best and make yourself proud of what you have achieved. We enjoyed listening to her story about how she kept her bedroom tidy enough to have the King of the Jungle stay over. We demonstrated this learner quality as we tried to keep our own class tidy throughout the day, tidying up one toy before playing with another.

Then we met Katie the creative chameleon. She reminds us to be creative, think differently and be individual. We enjoyed hearing her story about the time she won the jungle art competition for producing the most creative picture of the jungle. We demonstrated this learner quality as we created very unique patterns on Elmers cousins.

Next we met Gordon Gorilla who reminds us to give it a go. We listened to his story about the first time he swung through the jungle on vines. In Yoga we demonstrated this learner quality as we had a go at some tricky poses.

Then we met Colin the Concentrating Crocodile who teaches us that to be a good learner you should concentrate on what you have to do. His story was our favourite. We learned about his first time following his mummy down the river Nile. He kept on getting distracted and didnt follow his mummy down the river. We demonstrated this quality by listening hard to a story so that we could remember lots of things about it afterwards.

On Thursday we met Polly the Persevering Parrot and how to be a good learner you mustn`t give up, but persevere. Her story was a funny one about the first time she tried to crack the nut from its shell. Perseverance was something we demonstrated during our Nature Treasure Hunt.

Finally we were introduced to Slinky Linky Snake who teaches us that when you are learning something new, you can link it to what you already know to help you. To learn to create our own patterns with loose parts, i.e stones, shells, cubes etc, we thought about what we already knew about repeated patterns from our colour pattern lessons to support us.

Have a lovely weekend
