Good afternoon,

Despite the wetter weather this week, our highlight was reaching the exciting daily Mile Destination of South Africa. We are becoming more efficient with our choice of keywords needed for an effective internet search and successfully found out lots about the country. We learned that South Africa has 11 official languages , its official currency is the rand and that Johannesburg is the biggest city. We also learned that cyclist and Tour de France winner, Chris Froome, was brought up in South Africa.  However, we were most interested in finding out about the South African animals; the elephants, rhinos, giraffes and lions. It was a surprise to many of us that there are penguins living in a colony in South Africa too. We are looking forward to the journey to our next Daily Mile Destination of Brazil.
In Mathematics this week, we were learning about 2D shape. We copied, matched and named 2D shapes, developed mathematical vocabulary
(sides, corners, curved and straight) enabling us to describe,  construct, and use shapes creatively. We also went on a `Shape Hunt`, looking for shapes all around us.
In Literacy, we learned the sound made by `oo’ and ‘ee` and learned to read and write the common words; too, look, looked and see. On Monday the children were keen to share what they had done during the mid-term break, the perfect reason to write. The children are becoming more confident in starting their sentence with a capital letter, spelling the words they want to write with good phonic attempts and taught common words, leaving a finger space between each word and ending each sentence with a full stop. To improve reading fluency, we learned this week, how to sound out words more effectively by blending together the first 2 letters of an unknown word before attempting to sound out the rest of it. The Seesaw video uploaded will hopefully have provided you with support in using this strategy at home with your child when they are reading to you.
In Health and Well-being we continued to use Yoga as a way to be active and mindful and the children were also given the fabulous experience of a Handball Coaching Session.
Have a lovely weekend and remember to vote for Monday's Story Time book by commenting on the Seesaw post.
